The Speech-Language Department offers a variety of training courses to parents and allied professionals including educators who work with individuals with communication disorders. The workshops are highly practical and resourceful and provide a range of ideas on how to improve and facilitate the communication needs of both adults and children with various communication impairments.

Parental Skills Course

Pregnancy Course

The next full pregnancy course delivered by Marianne Theuma is due to start on Mon 13th May at 7.30pm and possibly on Tues 14th at 7pm. For full benefit, it is best to book early in the pregnancy, and then revision lessons are offered free of charge closer to due date.

Appogg Family Workshops

Aġenzija Appoġġ is currently organising Family Workshops for parents experiencing several difficulties in their life particularly in relation to child upbringing.

Aġenzija Appoġġ comes in contact with a large number of families that are going through difficult times such as mental or physical health difficulties, relationship problems, financial difficulties, unemployment, isolation, difficulties in the upbringing of their children and many other issues.

These workshops consist of a group of parents (between 8 and 10 participants) that would meet once a week for two hours for a period of approximately five months. Child minding is also provided. Parents who have been dependent for a long time on social services / at risk of becoming dependent on social services may also benefit to the Family Workshops.

Persons willing to participate or professionals who would like to refer a family for these workshops may contact Aġenzija Appoġġ on 2295 9000 during office hours, or send an email on appogg@gov.mt. Parenting Skills Courses - There Must be Another Way  **Spring 2013 Update**

Joyce runs three courses - There Must Be Another Way, one for parents of children under 6, one for parents of primary school aged children, and another one for parents of teens. Anyone interested can contact Joyce directly on callusjoyce@yahoo.co.uk

Joyce is starting a new parenting course for parents of children aged 6-12 years. The course covers the psychological, social, emotional and cognitive development of the child from six years to twelve years, as well as common age appropriate issues such as understanding behaviour, enhancing self esteem, cooperation through effective communication, personality, discipline etc. The course will start on March 14th 2013 and will consist of six sessions to be held at St Joseph Home, Sta Venera.

Cost for the whole course Eur35 per person or Eur60 if both parents attend together. Grandparents who are involved in the care of their grandchildren are welcome to enroll.
