Courses for Parents

Many people believe parenting should come naturally but sometimes we all need a bit of help, which is when parenting classes can be useful.

Love comes naturally to most parents, but everyone faces difficulties at some point or another - from babies who won't sleep at night and toddlers who throw tantrums, to unruly teenagers. Skills such as reflective listening or positive discipline can be taught and learned. These can change your view of parenting and help you understand why children behave as they do at each stage.

Positive parenting means using warmth, love, respect, consistency, good communication and empathy in the way you behave with your child. There's a lot of evidence to show that authoritative and positive parenting has enormous benefits. Children with parents who use such skills are far less likely to have behavioural problems, for example.

If you're brave enough to admit that you don't know absolutely everything there is to know about raising children and would welcome some information and advice, then a parenting class might be for you.

Classes give advice and information on bringing up children, including:
    * What to expect at each age
    * How to handle behavioural problems
    * The best ways to discipline your children
    * How to handle teenagers
    * Information about schools and education

You will also have the chance to:
    * Meet other parents
    * Reflect on how you're bringing up your children
    * Think about how your parents dealt with you
    * Discover new skills to make family life happier
    * Learn how to manage stress and anger
